Illegal Migrants Reclaim “Dignity” – Trump Tower 8/31/16

Proudly they proclaimed: Eight Cosecherxs (eros) were able to block Trump Tower, imagine what we can accomplish with 11 million.[Facebook photo attribution]

Our brave Cosecheras and Cosecheros

“Even though 24hours in NYC jail was unpleasant I felt incredibly lucky to have the support of this crew, and so thankful for all the support we had on the outside. Special thanks to Catalina Adorno for legal coordination, Nataly Castaño Vélez for calling and reassuring my parents that everything was fine, Roberto Juarez for picking up your phone at all hours, Carlos Saavedra Diaz for excellent police liaisoning, Vera Parra for being an incredible media coordinator, and to Fhatima Paulino for sending love and guidance from afar and for managing our social media media accounts while we were locked up, and to so many others who worked tirelessly to make sure we had everything we needed. ” (Always over-reaching)

“I am engaging in this civil disobedience to honor my parents’ labor. My parents are one of the most vulnerable workers in this country– they’re farm workers. We migrated from Oaxaca, Mexico to Homestead, Florida in 2005. The experience of the undocumented workers that worked on Trump Tower is parallel to the experience of my parents who work hard under the sun for a mediocre salary. Donald Trump and his supporters don’t recognize the dependency this economy has on hands of working immigrants. I am getting arrested because I know that my parents aren’t the only ones who struggle because they don’t have permanent protection, dignity, and respect. I want to send a message to our community: we will not stand with Trump’s rhetoric of hatred and racism. His ideology is a threat to my family, to me, to 11 million people. The time is now to stand against hate and racism.”

“My parents grew up in New York City, both from Puerto Rican immigrant families. Because we are Puerto Rican my family never had to live with the fear and uncertainty of not having papers but they did have to learn to adjust to life in a different language, culture and country. Growing up in Western, MA I saw the disrespect my mom faced at her job in a doctor’s office. Everyday when she came home from work I saw the powerlessness she felt in the face of mistreatment and her inability to leave her job for fear of not getting another. This daily dehumanization wore our family down. I know this is just a tiny sliver of the injustice, disrespect and mistreatment that immigrant families face in this country every day. I’m getting arrested with Cosecha today because I want all immigrants, children of immigrants and grandchildren of immigrants to know that we don’t have stay silent and watch our families and our communities face mistreatment. We are here to demand dignity for our entire community from my mom, to the undocumented workers who build Trump Tower, to the farm workers who picked the apple I ate for breakfast this morning.”

Maria Fernanda Cabello, Lives in Frederick, Md, From Hermosillo, Mexico

When I saw the headlines that Trump started his campaign by saying “When Mexico sends its people, they are not sending their best” I became upset not by Trump, but by all his supporters that came out and agreed with him. It reminded me of the story of this country. Countless times I have seen racist and xenophobic people treat my family and people like us like we are less deserving because we are immigrants and undocumented. I am getting arrested today because I want to make a statement that you cannot talk down on immigrants while benefiting from our labor. I am getting arrested so that more immigrants join Cosecha and fight against this hateful narrative and to win permanent protection, dignity and respect for immigrants in this country. I want more people to join harvest and fight with us against the anti-immigrant sentiment, so that we can get permanent protection, dignity and respect for our undocumented community.”

adjusted-14114917_1038375916257711_2171830339732725633_o-copyFive years ago, I made a promise to myself and the immigrant community that I was going to fight for us the way they fought for me. That was the same day that the DREAM Act failed on the Senate floor. I had driven all the way down from New Jersey the night before, only to watch the votes come in against me, my community, our future. I saw everyone. The disappointment. The pain. I promised to never allow this pain to come to my community ever again. For five years, I failed to complete my promise and it has eaten at me and bothered me. Especially now. Now, we have the opportunity to start things up again, to take a step towards completing my promise. I’ve realized I’ve been trying to keep this promise by myself so I have to do something that reactivates my community so we can fight together, just like we did in 2010. So I want to tell our community: I need your help. I can’t do this alone anymore.”

Emily Bloch –  From Brookline, Massachusetts

“It deeply bothers me to live in a country that does not remember its own history. My family came here as Jewish Immigrants from Eastern Europe almost 100 years ago. We came looking for a better life and fleeing persecution just like the 200 undocumented Polish workers that built Trump Tower. I stand with immigrants now because it does not serve this country to have a class of exploited workers who live in perpetual insecurity. I stand with immigrants now, in this civil disobedience, because the people close to my heart can’t get arrested. During this action, I will be thinking of Sonia, an undocumented woman from Peru, who has not seen her children in 12 years. She sees me as one of her children, but it pains me to know that she can’t give her own kids a hug. On her 12th year anniversary of her leaving her country, I called her and we cried on the phone together. We cried because of how deeply we value our relationship, and I cried because I didn’t want to be her substitute child– I want her to see her own children. I want to tell the immigrant community that there’s hope, you have power, and you have allies. This country needs this movement.”

Phoebe Gardener – Lives in Providence, Rhode Island

“I have been organizing immigrant workers for 5 years and I have seen the pain of not being valued because of your status. I’ve seen the pain of working so hard, but not getting paid. The pain of not being treated as a full person. I am engaging in this nonviolent civil disobedience to say that we will not longer accept the pain anymore. I want to show my support and love for the undocumented workers across the country. I am also doing this because of the undocumented people who are making a sacrifice by my side during this action. I want to tell the immigrant community that I will be here until the strike– we are not going anywhere. I see you– I see the sacrifices that you make, the work you do, and I want to honor you. It’s time to do something bigger than we’ve ever done before to make this country recognize that this country relies on you.”

Thaís Marques – Lives in Newark, New Jersey, From Belém, Brazil

“My parents are legal permanent residents, my brother is a citizen and I’m undocumented. I recently had my application for a green card rejected. I sent in the application a week before my 21st birthday, but United States Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS) has the right to be discretionary about their decided that because I applied so close to my birthday I no longer qualified as a minor. Living in a country where decisions about my future are all discretionary, is suffocating. Living here without any rights is suffocating. I’m tired of feeling like I don’t have any control over my future.”
++                                              ++                                                        ++
There you have it. Eight very entitled ILLEGAL migrants (and friends) . Chained. Chanting their Lies. Claiming ILLEGALS BUILT Trump Tower!

Trump Tower was built by 200 low wage, undocumented immigrant workers. 35 years later, our people continue to work in fields, construction sites, restaurants, and other industries for less than minimum wage without any dignity or respect. Join us as we honor the undocumented workers who built this tower, but also the workers who continue to build this country.”

WRONG.

In fact, a union lawsuit against the contractor was for pension and welfare benefits for 200 POLISH illegals who were hired to TEAR DOWN the Bonwit Teller Department store, not the CONSTRUCTION of the Tower.

Critical COMMENT made on-line to rebut the Cosecheros :

Built by us? Unless you helped build it with your own hands you have no right saying that. You have no right taking credit for the hard work of Americans and immigrants. Immigrants are and always have been welcome here. Shame on you for trying to equate immigrants with illegal aliens.

++ In these two short video clips, the illegals proudly twist the narrative. VIDEO #1-  I caught snippets of two press interviews.

Carlos Saavedra Diaz – speaking to NBC: “Once again, the hypocrisy of the message of anti-immigrant racism that Donald Trump has supported, while this building was itself and his hotel in D.C. has been built on the hands and the work of undocumented (aka ILLEGAL) immigrants (MIGRANTS)

Q- What’s going on in front of the door?

” In front of the door we have people that are willing to get arrested, they’re here and in solidarity with this movement- and they’re trying to show that this  (?) messaging, this (?) racist, hateful messaging you can’t send” (HUH?)

Q: What do you hope to accomplish then.

“We’re hoping to accomplish, to recognize the labor of  “undocumented immigrants” that it took to build this country. Took to build Trump’s Tower which is called the most important project in the world  and what it took to build his hotel in D.C.”

Q: (chanting begins again)

“Undocumented workers” have always been misrepresented. We don’t have enough voices (very loud chanting)

Young female (unidentified) gave some of the correct historical background re the demolition of Bonwit Teller (before construction)

“Donald Trump is a hypocrite because he (has used) hate rhetoric against immigrants while (pointing skyward) this tower, before it was built, was demolished by over 200 “undocumented” Polish workers 35 years ago…”

In VIDEO #2,  illegal protestor, Tais Marques, spoke while chained  at the Tower Doors.

Thaís Marques (Cosecha protestor while chained to door) ” My name is Thaís Marques. I am “undocumented”. I am a daughter of legal, permanent residents. My brother is a U.S.  citizen. I am here today to honor the 200 “undocumented” workers who worked on the tower and the 11 million (where do they get these numbers?) “undocumented” who built this. This country DEPENDS on US. (unclear) This country, this economy would FALL. This country depends on us.”

++So. Yes. It was a Peaceful Protest. The “Cosecha EIGHT”  (the 4 chained and 2 each foot-blocking the revolving doors) calmly executed their plan. NO one was getting IN or OUT of the doors (for about an hour). But, the NYPD’s plan was tight, as well: To clear the entrance – from all sides – making it difficult to get good pictures due to the ‘crowd cover’ of police bodies .

Meet the GOP candidate for NYC Comptroller-2013

On Thursday, June 27, 2013, Republican Wall Street veteran, John Burnett,  announced his candidacy for New York Comptroller in front of NYC’s City Hall.

( scroll down for video)

Introduced by Edward Cox, chairman of the New York Republican State Committee, and Manhattan GOP Chair, Dan Isaacs,

_DSC5822 copyBurnett then  formally announced that he is ready to jump into the race.

_DSC5836 copy3

WHO is JOHN BURNETT?

Capture1

Republican John Burnett, 43, is a Harlem resident who went from working a cash register at Pathmark to overseeing wealth managers on Wall Street.

He  is a member of the state GOP’s African-American Coalition and has most recently been an advisory board member of White Wolf Capital, a private firm specializing in “management buyouts, re-capitalizations and investments in leading middle market companies. Prior to that, Burnett worked with Platts, a division of McGraw-Hill, last serving as director of risk and compliance and   spent 20 years as an auditor for major banks. This is John Burnett, the man now running full-time for Comptroller of NYC.

Burnett is more than qualified for Comptroller but Democrat enrollment in the city outstrips GOP registration by more than six to one, so Burnett likely faces an uphill fight for votes and donor cash in a race against Scott Stringer, the Manhattan BP who cleared the field after dropping down from the mayor’s race.

Burnett has blasted  his Democrat rival, Scott Stringer, as:

” …unqualified for even an entry-level financial-services job.“The Democrat(ic) candidate for city comptroller is a career politician with absolutely zero business experience — he’s never had a job in the private sector. He’s not qualified to work as a bank teller, but he wants to manage a $130 billion pension fund.”

How important is Comptroller?

The New York City Comptroller is the Chief Financial Officer of the City of New York. The office requires a trustworthy professional that is independent and has experience in portfolio investment management, audit, compliance, contract administration registration and oversight, as well as matters that relate to the City’s operations and financial transactions.

_DSC5817 copyredo

What Does the Comptroller Do?

The 4 primary roles of the Comptroller are to:
1.    Oversee the management of the 5 New York City Pension Funds that are currently worth approximately 135 billion dollars;
2.    Audit the City’s agencies with an independent view that is not subject to political influence, develop fiscal policy, implement corrective action plans for issues and ensure that the City’s contracts are compliant and fairly awarded to corporations, small businesses and individuals;
3.    Organize, recommend and provide advice regarding the City’s 78 billion dollar annual budget; and
4.    Manage a professional staff of approximately 700 employees. These employees include accountants, attorneys, economists, engineers, budget, financial and investment analysts, computer analysts, claim specialists and researchers in addition to clerical and administrative support.

Burnett says:

” As Comptroller of New York City, I will execute my duties and responsibilities in an ethical manner to safeguard the financial health of the City. I will advise the Mayor, the City Council and the public in a transparent and timely manner.”

_DSC5814 copyredo

If Burnett makes it to the November vote for office of Comptroller,

“he vows to create jobs, to see that minority and women-owned businesses get a fair share of city contracts and to reform the public pension system.”

Regarding pensions, Burnett has also said, “My first experience as a ‘union guy’ was as the child of union-member parents”.

“My parents relied heavily on their pensions, especially later in their lives when they were challenged with heart disease and cancer. I will never forget that [as] comptroller, we are not just seeking a positive return on investments; we are investing for people like my parents and millions of New Yorkers’ retirement and well-being to secure their future in good health and in challenging times.”

According to his campaign website, one of his top priorities is:

investigating the cost-saving potential of merging the city’s five public-worker pension systems into one. As the father of a 19-year-old daughter, he also promises to create a more hospitable environment for small businesses in a city where black and Latino unemployment outstrips that of whites.

VIDEO OF PRESS CONFERENCE

Burnett’s professional record is an alphabet soup of qualifications, including experience in “operational controls for structured financing and investment products, mutual funds, unit trusts, annuities, CDOs, corporate and individual retirement plans, bank financing and investment instruments to include CDs, HELOC, corporate financing and cash management.”

Burnett takes pains to demonstrate that he’s not all about big money and says he stays engaged in the community through the Harlem chapter of his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, and as a member of the board of the Urban Resource Institute. Burnett also served as treasurer of the area’s subcommittee of The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Foundation. From his campaign website:

“Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe.”— Frederick Douglass

May Day “General Strike” seeks to “Take Down America” in 2012

There is no 99%. No 1% . But, there are “unhinged, nihilistic protestors .”

We are 100% Americans! All part of America. Not some multi-culti Balkanized Marxist fantasy.

There is NO homogeneous ‘class’ in America. An ‘unselfish’ collective marching toward Utopia….

No Class Warfare. But, there is a real war; occupy war-games, on-going and violent; satellite protests with the naive and gullible marching in lock-step.

No mass of individuals who are equally oppressed by the wealthiest “1%” . But that could soon change. CHANGE. Once OWS and their Marxist Army have deconstructed America, oppression will reign supreme.

But, that hasn’t stopped the “OWS” movement from lumping together bankers, politicians, CEOs and stockbrokers so they could create that phantom EVIL class: “The 1%.” for these happy little ‘tools’

Propaganda.  Subversion.

Indoctrination not Education.

Misguided priorities.

“Liberty is the Enemy.”

Terrorize neighborhoods.

Widespread riots: Good.

Cops, Law and Order: Bad.

Success must be punished.

Grievances. Resentments from ‘elfin academics

It’s a Global  Marxist-Leninist-Maoist-Chavista, Anarchist-Insurgent-Illegal-Islamist Fantasy-land.

The Alinsky-Ayers Community Organizer traditions have given us generations of malcontents .

This is NOT the American Dream.

Propaganda-fed “useful idiots”

A whining, entitled class of underlings prepared to destroy America.

MAY DAY was Inter-National WORKERS Day AND #OWS General STRIKE Day.

No work. No Income. Shut down America.

UNIONS LOVE Commie Day. Addicted to power and want MORE. Lots More.

The #OWS Movement was manufactured months before they squatted in Zuccotti. Planned by George Soros and his fellow travellers…

An Army of the disgruntled, taught to HATE the very country that’s meant success for generations of immigrants.

Mocking all things good about America.

ILLEGALS thought Obama would open borders instantly. “Can we come IN now?

Open Borders. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Why do ILLEGALS want to come to the U.S. if it is so AWFUL?

Malcontents, organized by the Left to foment class warfare and strife.

Anarchist-fascist-marxist-socialist thugs, working with furious deliberation to put an end to our American Dreams .

A summer of disobedience. A flash mob redesigning of the U.S….

And their tools…..Street Theatre. Banners. Puppets …. “We’re All In The Same Boat”…

Flags and Slogans: 99% ….“999 bottles of beer on the wall”. also…”99 names for the moon god“. (just sayin’)

REVOLUTION MEANS  “OCCUPY EVERYTHING!”

CHANGE. DESTROY. BUILD “UTOPIA”

…. NO MORE WAR….

Social engineers. Nazis. Thugs. Unions. Communists. Anarchists. Progressives. Democrats.

March On. March on….

Accept their “New World Order”  or….else…. STOP BITCHIN’

Provoke. Confuse Law enforcement. (Confuse everybody) BTW- Leftie Commie- Lisa Fithian was paid $300 a day to teach Training Tactics to OPPOSE police.  F#%k the Police.

Attack any and all opposition (The assault on NY-ICE went just as they planned) Compromise Police and Attack . Attack Attack.

Create Crisis. Confuse ‘public ‘good’ and ‘general will’ with wishful delusions.

Anyone looking for a Doctor? (With perhaps a BAD attitude)

The Left is at War with American History. Zinn. Chomsky. Ayers. Must rewrite . Must not teach traditions. Must not learn from the past.

“MAKE ART NOT WAR”

DeTocqueville: “When the past no longer illuminates the future, the spirit walks in darkness.

Eli Wiesel: “When Evil has power, it is almost too late”

These anarchists and insurgents are NOT the “99%” . They have not been elected to represent America.

Muslims Rally In Support Of NYPD-Videos- March 5, 2012

March 5, 2012. The Press Conference was at One Police Plaza and was presented by AIFD/AILC (America Islamic Forum For Democracy) and AILC (American Islamic Leadership gathered with Congressman Peter King ( R-NY) to SUPPORT the Commissioner Ray Kelly and the NYPD.

From TSM: Nice to see the NYPD get some well deserved support, but I am concerned. Will people start thinking there’s a Safe’ Islam’ just because these are such thoughtful and patriotic Muslims?

[Check out Robert Spencer with some added observations on the press here]

Part 6 is the Q and A with the reporters with Jasser and King answering their questions

And the 7th video is  a bit of a statement made by Linda Sarsour of The Muslim American Civil Liberties Coalition to FOX5 and NEWS12. There were probably others from the opposition present, but Sarsour was the most obvious

The following is a statement  from the American Islamic Leadership Coalition

“As American Muslim leaders, we come together to defend the US Constitution, uphold religious pluralism, protect American security and cherish genuine diversity in the practice of our faith of Islam “. The AILC Foundational Principles

The AILC seeks to prevent:

1.      The instrumentalization of Islam for political purposes, and/or the exploitation of our faith community for political gain, whether by Islamists and their non-Muslim allies in the West, or their opponents.

2.      The imposition of laws based upon a falsely divinized human understanding of the Qur’an and Sunnah, as often occurs when Muslims idolize shari‘ah without understanding it.

3.      The preferential treatment of, or discrimination against, any community based upon its religious beliefs.

4.      Legitimizing the practice of deception, intimidation and/or violence in the name of Islam.

The AILC rejects:

1.      The persecution of Shi’ites, Ahmadis, Ismailis, Druze and Bohras, as well as those Muslims who have turned away from Islam and become agnostic, atheists or converted to another faith.

2.      The persecution of non-Muslims in Muslim-majority states.

3.      The practice of ‘takfir,’ which allows so-called “scholars” and clerics to label fellow Muslims as apostates, and impose a death fatwa (religious opinion or ruling) upon them.

4.      The judicially- and/or extrajudicially-coerced observance of any religious or cultural practice that strips the individual of his or her autonomy and equality.

May our nations, peoples and varied yet complementary faiths serve as a cornerstone for an emerging global civilization, in which different cultures and religions serve to mutually enrich, rather than threaten or destroy one another.

“And if God had so willed, He could surely have made you all into a single community, but [He willed otherwise] in order to test you by means of that which He has vouchsafed to you.  Vie, then, with one another in doing good works!  For unto God must you all return; and then He shall make you truly understand all that on which you were wont to differ.” (Qur’an 5:48)

++
TSM: They leave us with a quote from the Quran.  Speaking of a “a global civilization.” That just supports the Islamic goal of domination, of the Umma. That’s Islam and it’s not good. Why, once they are in America, do they feel compelled to remain Muslim?

“…many remain in a religion because of family ties, cultural norms, and sheer inertia. But over time, religion — and faith in God itself — is judged by its fruit. Which is how it should be.

And the best-known fruit of Islam today — in countries calling themselves Muslim, such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Taliban Afghanistan, and certainly among the Islamist groups mentioned above — is so ugly that many millions of people are increasingly repelled by religion and by God.

….when the best-known actions of some of the most religious people in the world are kidnappings, slaughter, torture, mass murder, suicide bombings, beheadings, and mistreatment of women unparalleled in recorded history, then religion and faith in God suffer everywhere.”

TSM : Better we should  stop wishing for a ‘nice Islam’, in a country like America. It’s Oil and Water. They know it and that’s why they work to confuse and to equivocate.

” Instead of bowing and scraping to the Islamic supremacists and feebly protesting that we’re not really racists and hatemongers and all the other calumnies and canards they throw at us, we should be taking the fight to them, and standing up and saying, “You are fronting for the most oppressive ideology on the face of the earth.  You are fronting for evil.  You are carrying water and running interference for the denial of free speech, the denial of the freedom of conscience, the institutionalized oppression of women, the subjugation of non-Muslims, and worse.  You’re fronting for stonings, amputations, the murder of apostates, the treatment of women as possessions of men, the madness and senseless violence that we see in this furor over the Quran-burnings, and more.  You shout us down on campuses and do everything you can to make sure we are not heard in the public square.  And you call us fascists?  You are the quintessence of fascism.”

TSM: We are told that, in America, we have nothing to fear from Sharia Law. We are told that in America our Constitution wouldn’t allow Sharia Law to  abrogate our rights. But, examples are coming in from around the country showing a creeping Sharia chipping away at those protections.

And concurrently, we have a push on for a National Holiday to celebrate Mohammed’s Birthday , suggested by a certain participant in the NYPD presser, Imam Qazi Qayyoom (in the sunglasses and yellow stripes) His “…. objective, aim and goal ( is) to establish the real meaning of ISLAM-I Shall Love All Mankind.”

Guess Mo’s B-Day will help move that LOVE right along.

Parting thoughts on a more somber note. The sudden loss of Andrew Breitbart. It’s hard to accept. While surfing around, the message attached to this image of Andrew, it was perfect-timikng. Just what we needed:  STEAL THIS GRAVITAR. Awesome.

So post Breitbart on your blogs. Make stickers. Rolls and rolls of stickers. Plaster Andrew wherever you can!

We’ve lost an important leader in the Fight To Save America. Hoping we’ll do the legacy of Andrew Brietbart proud as we dig-in and FIGHT ON.

CPAC 2012-Day 3-Sat A.M. (vids and pics)

Back to Exhibit Hall, first thing Saturday morning and caught a few displays I hadn’t seen on Thursday. ( separate post will be of the exhibits)

Saw Gov. Bobby Jindal, Governor of Louisiana, speaking in the Ballroom, so I headed up stairs (but way too slowly)…

As I entered the Ballroom, I had realized I had missed Jindal and now Dinesh D’Souza was ending his speech. What I did hear of D’Souza though, was very interesting. AND, he was promoting a film, “The Roots of Obama’s Rage”.  (Definitely looking forward to its release)

Next up, the very engaging Ann McElhinney (Go Irish!) came out quickly. She’s a Journalist-Filmmaker promoting another film I will be looking for as well, “Frack Nation.”

This panel that followed McElhinney I hadit  on my schedule (9:50 AM.) Lasted only about 25 minutes, but was as interesting as I had hoped. An important, timely and sensitive topic during an election year,

… when the Democrats are attempting to use this particular point-of-view to divide and conquer. Defending the Rule-of-Law does not make one a RACIST, nor unpatriotic….” . “What part of LEGAL don’t we (you) understand!”

Immigration – High Fences, Wide Gates: States vs. the Feds, the Rule of Law & American Identity

The Panel: Alex Nowrasteh, Policy Analyst, Competitive Enterprise Institute; The Honorable Kris Kobach, Secretary of State of Kansas; Robert Vandervoort, Executive Director, ProEnglish ; The Honorable David Rivera (R-FL), United States Representative and  Moderator: Niger Innis,  (Congress of Racial Equality)

UPDATE: 3-12-12 G. Perry has written a great report with comments at American-Rattlesnake,  in response to the Immigration Panel . Please check it out>>

Former Ambassador to the U N,  John Bolton, was the speaker at 10:35. Couldn’t stay for his  speech but grabbed a picture (the crowd LOVED him!)

BTW- I hadn’t posted these pictures of Bolton in lobby of the Algonquin Hotel (September 2011)  Filmmaker David Miles was pre-recording Bolton’s speech for the Geller-Spencer ” 9-11 Rally”.

LOVE the Algonquin lobby!(LOVE Bolton!)

[vodpod id=Video.16169720&w=425&h=350&fv=offsite%3Dtrue%26amp%3Blang%3Den-us%26amp%3Bpage_show_url%3D%252Fphotos%252Fpamelahall%252Fsets%252F72157627504688118%252Fshow%252F%26amp%3Bpage_show_back_url%3D%252Fphotos%252Fpamelahall%252Fsets%252F72157627504688118%252F%26amp%3Bset_id%3D72157627504688118%26amp%3Bjump_to%3D]

Leaving early today. Have to check out by Noon ( at the latest 2 PM) but at that point would be dragging my camera-gear around, packed and ready for the train.  No work would get done (I know, I KNOW! I was going to miss the Divine Sarah…but Urban Infidel was RIGHT THERE) Yet, even with my gear packed away, I did catch some fun in the lobby with my trusty Nikon P80.

Noticed I was seeing more “Santorums” than “Romneys” and  “Newts”.

Even so, the Santorum, Romney and Newt Teams seemed to be enjoying a friendly competition as they handed out their materials (and one improvised bumper-sticker)

It was about 12:30 (*sigh*) Time to go….

CPAC 2012 : Thursday- Feb 9 – Vids and pics

February 9, 2012. Washington. DC – CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference)

Off and running EARLY. It was 7:00AM  (and for a “late-riser” I was doing good ) as I headed for the bloggers check-in area to get any last minute info I may need for the day (including the very necessary wire-less code) and then I headed to a favorite, the Exhibit Hall.

They were still setting things up and many of the exhibitors were upstairs waiting for the opening-speakers in the Main Ball Room, but still took loads of pictures that will be posted after the reports on the panels.

OUTSIDE the Ball Room, the crowds of CPAC attendees were registering, getting ready for three days of non-stop activity.  (Noticed some added restrictions posted, rules of conduct etc most likely prompted by  the #OWS renegades  planning to crash the event)

“Return of Big Labor: What Can We Learn from Wisconsin and Ohio?”

Senior Fellow F. Vincent Vernuccio, Labor Policy Counsel, Competitive Enterprise Institute; Steven Malanga, Senior Editor, City Journal, Manhattan Institute; Moderator: Terry Scanlon, President, Capital Research Center; Kevin Mooney, Capitol Bureau Reporter, Pelican Institute for Public Policy (L to R in photo)

dscn1790 copy

“One reason the unions are opposed to us is “Right To Work”.

Not anti-union to support “Right To work”

In Wisconsin, Governor Walkers’ Bill.  no mandate.  $31 million saved.

Teachers lost nothing.  And a reduction in property taxes

Freedom. Less government. Workers have a choice

Shameful that Wisconsin and Indiana Democrat Legislators refused to do their jobs (by hiding)

California pensions system is broken (300 billion)

California had Big Labor Pension Reform

It was retroactively rolled-back when Grey Davis elected.

All the money that had been saved was retroactively put back in to the system.

Only 3% union $ goes to represent union members.

Many union members vote Republican but union $ goes to support politics (and it’s NOT Republican)

What happened to representing The Workers?

Union dues down by 50%. Pension Plans under-funded.

Left always goes emotional when fighting reform:

“Bill will kill babies”

“Schools will blow-up”

Our side needs to get our message together (and funding) to break up these bills.

Citizens need to know what’s IN bills ( fiscal reality)”

“From Fidel to Chavez: How Do We Stop the Resurgence of Socialism in Latin America”

[The Honorable Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), United States Representative did not attend]

The Honorable David Rivera (R-FL), United States Representative ; The Honorable Otto Reich, President, Otto Reich Associates, LLC, Former Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Former United States Ambassador to Venezuela

Moderator: Mauricio Claver-Carone, Executive Director, Cuba Democracy Public Advocacy

dscn1794 copy

David Rivera spoke first.

Dictatorial regimes in Latin America.

Cuba. Chavez . Ecuador. Nicaragua

Anti-America rhetoric from demagogues

Free-Trade. We want equal partnership. NAFTA

In Latin America often confronted by burdensome process

Reform Consular process

Support NGOs, sports, educate; bridge the ant-American message

On the spread of Socialism

Otto Reich :  Latin America is not European Socialism. It has failed.

Greece has failed . It is not the Castro-Chavez Marxist-Socialism

In our own interest (U.S.) a peaceful, prosperous FREE Hemisphere

Latin America’s anti-imperialist economic project, ALBA (21st c Socialism) is not free, not peaceful, not prosperous  [drug traffic, explosives, narcotics, terrorism]

We should be surrounded by peaceful Nations. What should Obama do. Diplomatic outreach to those that are hostile regimes? Offered friendship to Chavez.

Chavez’ response: Largest military build-up financed by Russia. Opened doors to Iran (Ah’jad). Marxist guerrillas in Columbia. In Ecuador, had lunch with anti-American President. Nationalized property. Closed U.S. Air base . Expelled U.S. Ambassador.

Bolivia expelled U.S. We must care about the anti-American alliance South of our borders, financed by Chavez. STOP subsidizing Chavez (oil). His bag-men took Venezuelan suitcases of cash to places in South America…from Chavez…to Argentina.

Cut-off the OIL. Cut-off the Life-Line

Answer to a question: Castro asked Venezuelan President for $300 million to “do America in”.  Two years later, Castro attacked Venezuela.

Rivera: Cuba has no electoral process. Venezuela does. Independents groups in Cuba trying to change. NGO’s in Venezuela can be supported.

Sadly, at 12:30, this panel was so BORING!! The only one negative experience, panel-wise, everything else I checked out was great.

“The Failure of Multiculturalism: How the pursuit of diversity is weakening the American Identity”

Sponsored by ProEnglish

[ Dr. Serge Trifkovic, foreign affairs editor for Chronicles magazine did not attend]

Speakers: Robert Vandervoort, Executive Director, ProEnglish; Dr. Rosalie Porter, author of American Immigrant: My Life In Three Languages, chairwoman of the board, ProEnglish ; Peter Brimelow, author of The Patriot Game: National Dreams and Political Realities and founder of VDARE.com and John Derbyshire, contributing editor at National Review and author of We Are Doomed  (L to R in picture)

First a long rambling speech, of Trifkovik’s, was read by Vandervoort.  Those on the panel seemed as fidgety as the audience waiting for this speech to end. It may have been an interesting panel, but the elongated “read” lost me.   I was juggling events anyway, so I decided to be on-time for the next panel.

(Length audio 42:59) This was a great Panel. Civics. Who teaches REAL Civics anymore? Pride of Country. Of America? If Howard Zinn’s Marxist revisionist History book is in the classroom, you know the answer. However, I was pleased to learn of A Patriot’s History, that it is in the Classroom ( or can be) and that when it is even immigrants ( as well as those born here) can learn to speak PROUDLY of being an American and to be thankful for the sacrifices made by others to allow us to live FREE.

For those interested, hopeful publishing the audio will be useful.

Great and Noble Purpose here

Second Speaker

10:19:  grabbed some snippets that stuck with me: “Civics. The Way America Works. Best taught through History. Taught in an historical context, how government works. Foreign constitutions used as a model, due to failure to connect teach civics and Constitution, American Exceptionalism.  Without historical foundations, susceptible to relativism. you will accept that Amer. Constitutional  structure is deficient.  Myopic…designed to operate 4 pillars,  Common Law, Private Prop, Predominant Christ religion and Free Market. Without all 4 factors, an Amer-Like Constitution will fail… ask the French. Without teaching American Exceptionalism as part and parcel of CIVICS, will generate America-Hate they won’t understand historical concerns of protecting the Common Man from Government.

Recent experience with an instructor from the Sunni-system who taught immigrant classes for the constitution for citizenship classes. He wrote me, we’ve been using a Civics Text Book and our passing rates has been 65% at best. So he said he started using  the Patriots History of the United States to teach this CIVICS class. As a result, no student in my class came in with less than a 95%. I suggested he try to get the to adopt the book. I suggested a study. Sunni bought into a study, a test. (teaching 1/2 with the Patriots History)  All those who used the Patriots History were in the top 20%. The others were in the bottom 50 %. And the ADOPTED the Patriots History. SUNNI.

John Adams quote: Children should be educated and instructed in the principles of FREEDOM

And at 41:02 he adds to “the best part of the Sunni story”. “What they found about the students before when they were using just the civics book, he told me his students were coming up very hostile toward America; they hated this country. They didn’t like it, they were ambivalent. And after they started using Patriot’s History,  I think you can use any good conservative history book, they came out GRATEFUL that they were in this country. They loved this country because they saw what people had gone through to give them the liberties they have.

So glad to have audio and video recorders to capture these panels. Even with written notes it’s way too much info jamming from one panel to the other.

BLOGGERS BASH  Finished up the day at this year’s Blog Bash at 6:30 PM. We were bussed to Microsoft’s state-of-the-art Innovation and Policy Center on K street. After an unfortunate  problem with our Blogger Bash ID’s (the strings were all twisted and stuck together). we were finally allowed to ascend to an upper floor of Microsoft  were Suhail Khan was greeting us as we exited the elevators (more on him and Grover Norquist in Friday’s post) BTW-there were NO PICTURES ALLOWED! Go figure. You get a bunch of bloggers together for a party and we’re told we can’t take any pictures. (very odd)

Nov 6, 2011 was National Remembrance Day for Americans Killed by Illegal Aliens (video)

On November 6, 2011, at 26 Federal Plaza in NYC, American activists met to acknowledge a National Day of Remembrance in honor of those murdered by illegal aliens.

Gerard Perry of American Rattlesnake and fellow members of NY-Ice met to honor the American victims of illegal alien crime.

Joanna Marzullo, President of NY-Ice (New Yorkers for Immigration Control and Enforcement) said :

People in our Movement have worked hard to have a day designated where we remember those who have been victims of illegal aliens. November 6th is that day.

I know what our predictable opposition will say about this Day. They will say “most illegals aren’t violent criminals. Can’t ‘the rest’ stay?” To which my answer is: No. We, the People of the U.S., are ALL victims of illegal aliens. Illegal aliens who aren’t committing *additional* violations are still illegally here, and leeching and detrimental in countless ways, including: our schools are overcrowded, our hospitals are closing, our jobs are undercut and lost, and much more.

                                         Members of NY- ICE

 VIDEO

More than 50, 000 Americans have been killed by illegal aliens since 9/11.

More than 6,000 U.S. troops have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since that same date. But nearly ten times that number have been killed right here at home as a consequence of the Federal government’s failure to secure our borders and protect its citizens, in direct violation of the Constitution’s Article IV Section 4:

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

More than 50,000 dead as a direct result of this violation. Yet the media ignores the victims. And politicians don’t recognize the loss of tens of thousands of families.

But today We The People remember.

Today is National Remembrance Day for Americans Killed By Illegal Aliens.

A coalition of groups fighting against illegal immigration, including Stand With Arizona, the FIRE Coalition, and Congressmen Steve King (R-IA) and Walter Jones (R-NC) joined together to recognize this day in honor of the victims.

The Illegal Alien Crime Reporting Act of 2011

Remembering the American Victims of Illegal Alien Criminals

F.I.R.E. Coalition, in partnership with the Tea Party Immigration Coalition and the Foreign National Crime Information Center, will hold a press conference in Washington, D.C. Thursday November 3rd to designate November 6th as The National Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Illegal Aliens and to support Congressman Walter Jones’ (NC-3) H.R. 3168, The Illegal Alien Crime Reporting Act of 2011. And we thank Congressman Steve King (IA-5) for introducing a Resolution naming November 6th as The National Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Illegal Aliens.

“November 6th is the 25th anniversary of the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act

Amnesty,” said John Stahl, Chairman of the Tea Party Immigration Coalition. “One legacy of the IRCA amnesty is millions of illegal aliens who continue to invade our country expecting another amnesty and some of them are violent criminals. It is appropriate that November 6th be the day that we observe a moment of silence, remembering the tens of thousands of unnecessary victims of illegal alien crimes. They are ‘unnecessary victims,’ because if the federal government did its job, secured our borders and enforced our immigration laws, we wouldn’t have illegal alien criminals victimizing innocent American citizens and legal immigrants.”

Tea Party Immigration Coalition supports H.R. 3168, The Illegal Alien Crime Reporting Act of 2011. “We don’t know the exact number of victims of illegal alien criminals,” Stahl observed. “The GAO report on Criminal Alien Statistics only hints at the problem. Honest reporting of illegal alien crime is essential for us to know the breadth and scope of the problem so we can convince our elected officials to enforce the law and protect our country and citizens. Mr. Jones’ legislation can provide us a more accurate accounting of how many Americans are being hurt by illegal alien criminals.”

The Foreign National Crime Information Center’s Victim’s of Illegal Alien Crime Memorial (VOIAC.org) has a data base of victims of illegal alien criminals that can be viewed and added to. “Tea Party Immigration Coalition is pleased to work in partnership with F.I.R.E. Coalition, The Foreign Crime Information Center and all Congressman and patriots who desire to make America safer by forcing our government to secure our borders and enforce our laws. We remember these victims in the hope of preventing future American victims of illegal alien criminals.”

St. Nicholas Church at Ground Zero to be rebuilt- FINALLY!

From Atlas Shrugs: “Huge props to Congressional candidate George Demos (who spoke at our 911 Freedom Rally) and Governor Andrew Cuomo.”

9/11 Church to be Rebuilt

St nic church

George Demos, the Conservative Republican candidate for US Congress in New York’s First District, who helped lead the effort to bring national attention to the plight of the 9/11 Church today praised Governor Cuomo for fulfilling Governor Pataki’s pledge to rebuild the only house of worship destroyed on September 11th.

George Demos said, “Fifteen months ago when the ember of hope to rebuild St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church was nearly extinguished and our nation was embroiled in a controversy about the propriety of a Mosque at Ground Zero, we stood up and let the nation know that it was our obligation to rebuild the only house of worship destroyed on September 11th.

[…]

Sadly the breakthrough only came after the Port Authority’s Director Christopher Ward, who had been maliciously blocking the rebuilding of the Church, was forced to resign.

Deal Struck to Rebuild NY Church Destroyed on 9/11

It took a decade, but a deal has finally been struck to rebuild a church destroyed on 9/11, the church and a public agency announced Friday.

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said they have resolved their long dispute over how to rebuild St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, a small, 85-year-old chapel that stood across the street from the World Trade Center and was destroyed when the towers fell.

The church and the public agency had been at odds over the details of a land swap that will move the church slightly down the street to make way for some of the giant construction projects now under way at ground zero.

The settlement, mediated by the office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, will end a lawsuit filed by the archdiocese earlier this year. Under the deal, the Port Authority will pay for site-work and below-ground infrastructure. The cost of that work is estimated to be about $25 million, according to the governor’s office. The archdiocese will pay for the construction of the chapel.

The new church will be about 3½ times as large as the old one, and also house a nondenominational bereavement center.

The leader of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, Archbishop Demetrios, said the church’s continued presence at the trade center site will be “an affirmation of the significance of religious freedom and experience for all New Yorkers and all Americans.”

“We will again light many candles in the new St. Nicholas Church and remember those who were lost to us, and those heroes who so nobly sacrificed their lives,” he said.
