Celebrating Blue Cloud Award Honorees

“The Blue Cloud Gala is the most important and highest-profile event the China Institute holds all year… named for “Qingyun” or “Blue Cloud”, the traditional Chinese symbol of high virtue and status … (the gala) … deepens trust and understanding between China and the United States.

The China Institute was founded in 1926 by leading reformers Hu Shi, K.P. Wen, John Dewey, and Paul Monroe advancing a deeper understanding of China through programs in education, culture, art and business.” [China Institute]

The Chinese citizens seem to enjoy  a more free market friendly communism; the new China in attendance this evening.

So, with a better world on the horizon, why are protestors outside the Oriental Mandarin Hotel? Easy answer – the sponsoring organization, the hotel, and the honorees are all tied to #CCP. (the Communist Party of China) and all is not better for some …

And perhaps the people in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tibet, who are still oppressed by the Chinese government, might not embrace this Communist ‘light’.  Or even more importantly, ask the Uyghurs for whom the protestors are demanding an end to the Chinese government’s Uyghur genocide, how this new improved China is working out for them.

Of course, the protestors were asked to leave a public sidewalk by hotel security; to step away from the hotel’s canopy. One fellow stressed the futility of their a protest,”What you are doing is pointless. Just leave.

Ignoring the sins of the Chinese Communist government the attendees hurried past the signs exposing the Uyghur genocide: “CHINA! Stop the Uyghur Genocide! Save 2 Million Uyghur in Chinese Camps.”

The Uyghurs, are a Muslim Turkic minority,  subject to restricted religious and cultural freedom, arbitrary detention, invasive surveillance and a far-reaching attempt by the Chinese government to erase their cultural identity through re-education camps.[….  a series of mass internment camps which imprison hundreds of thousands of Muslim Chinese and Muslim foreign citizens with ethnic ties to the Uyghur population.”[2]

Blinders on as the very black-tie/formal dressed diners headed inside for the gala banquet. Many single women arrived – sometimes in pairs  — but absent male companions. The few times I saw M/F pairs was with white western males as escort, not Chinese. Strange.

Later, the arrival of China Consulate Huang Ping was with two other black-tie attired men – sans females. [China Consulate Huang Ping arriving in picture below]

Tonight was a cultural Gala Night that included fine dining and networking with the head of NYC China Consulate, Ambassador Huang Ping. However, exposing genocide was NOT on the menu.

No one is forcing the gala patrons into re-education camps, removing their organs for free market profit. Life is good, so the Communist atrocities from Tiananmen Square in 1989 to Hong Kong 2019 must be ignored.

But, amazingly, not ignored by our Congress. Perhaps there is hope for some.

What if the Western radicals, instead of sending a Gaza flotilla to aid the “fakestinians, instead of screaming that Trump is a fascist, what if they advocated for the REAL VICTIMS of 21st century Communism? Nope. Unfortunately, they live and breathe their own re-education.

Dinner is served.
