The Many Faces of NYC Israel Day Parade 2018

June 3, 2018. NYC. The Annual Celebrate Israel Parade.
Hosted by  www.jcrcny.org

A Day of JOY!

Celebrating the past, present …. the future …

Most were there to celebrate Israel (see Parade slideshow)

With elections coming up, many opportunistic politicians eager for photo-ops. Wonder how genuine is the support of some. (see slide show)

Unfortunately, the parade has allowed many with questionable allegiances a spot in the parade (see slide show)

As usual, the happy parade goers were yelled at by the offensive Neturei Karta. [the parade always DROWNS them OUT!]

The TRUTH was close-by: 58 Arab States vs ONE Jewish State.

The police moved this fellow and his sign a “safe” distance from the Neturei Karta: “GO HOME to Jordan”.

The Marching Groups list included “Progressive Cluster, LGBT Cluster”.

Patriots like the NEW JDL NY challenged these traitors (see slideshow pics)

Standing Together is an Israeli movement of Jews and Arabs. Our core issues – Struggling for Peace and an End to the Occupation:

“Standing Together is an Israeli movement of Jews and Arabs, who, guided by the principles of peace, equality and social justice, aim to create social change in Israel.”

“We hold a holistic worldview and recognize the interconnections of the ongoing occupation of Palestinian territories, the growing social and economic disparities within Israeli society and the attacks by the government on democratic freedoms and on the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel.

ARZA- Progressive Jewish Voices, Association of Reform Zionists of America. Interesting PDF on their approach to a negotiated  two-State solution.

Zioness Movement – UNABASHEDLY PROGRESSIVE – believes in social justice for all people, yet provides a home and platform of support for Jews and Zionists in progressive circles. Also, found two Face Book links : Zioness in Charlottesville; Chloe Valdary and Zioness in the Parade.

Chloe is circled in the picture

Jewish Climate Action Network NYC joins SPNI, Canfei Nesharim, COEJL and other Jewish environmental groups to support the environment and Israel. They marched for the first time, in unison, with several other Jewish Environmental Organizations.

March with the Nature Israel Environmental Coalition, is a coalition of several activist groups listed below:

Canfei Nesharim: Connecting traditional Torah texts with contemporary scientific findings, Canfei Nesharim educates and empowers Jewish individuals, organizations and communities to take an active role in protecting the environment, in order to build a more sustainable world.

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) is Israel’s oldest and largest environmental non-profit organization. For over 60 years, SPNI has been dedicated to protecting and preserving Israel’s natural resources, environment, biodiversity and unique landscape. The work carried out by SPNI now will determine what the land of Israel will look like for generations to come.

The Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life (COEJL) deepens and broadens the Jewish community’s commitment to stewardship and protection of the Earth through outreach, activism and Jewish learning[…] COEJL is mobilizing the Jewish community to conserve energy, increase sustainability […] while building core Jewish environmental knowledge and serving as a Jewish voice in the broader interfaith community.

The New Israel Fund (NIF) was supposed to march in the parade, as they have done before.

NIF (New Israel Fund) The New Israel Fund uses an innocent name like The New Israel Fund to woo financial support, but it is deadly for Israel. It seeds money to groups devoted to damaging Israel, both from within and from outside by supporting Breaking the Silence (Shovrim Shtikah), B’Tselem, Adalah, warfare projects against Israel, boycotting Israel, Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) as well as dozens of other groups that work in concert to harm Israel.

The NIF marched to celebrate 70 years of  ISRAEL? Of course, not.  That’s why the New JDL-NY was ready for them. But, we never saw the NIF. Did the JCRC-NY pull their permit?

Some familiar celebrities included the beloved Dr. Ruth Westheimer (90 years young the next day)

Joel Grey – with National Yiddish Theatre Folksbeine(and Grey is 86!)

Mitzvah Clowns  …. always colorful ….

Curtis Sliwa, a crowd favorite, thanked the New JDL-NY  personally by climbing over the barricades to shake their hands.

John Voight & JDL- NY (they met in the park later)

Saw these enthusiastic Trump fans.

NEXT SECTION: The Politicians. Most controversial would be those on record supporting BDS, not Israel: BDS (Global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement)

Mayor di Blasio claims to be opposed to BDS but supports Linda Sarsour.Linda Sarsour is anti-Israel & a proponent of Sharia Law-These values’ don’t reflect the people of my NYC- @BilldeBlasio supports her!!”

Scott Stringer, NYC Comptroller.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo always keeps the Mayor far from his entourage. They are NOT BFF’s.

The Castro-loving Marxist NYC Council Member, Ydanis Rodriguez (far right in picture) was intensely glued to Gov. Cuomo’s photo-op.

Corey Johnson, the new City Council Speaker appeared briefly (picture from his face book page). Also,New York City Council Member (of the left persuasion), Margaret Chin (Margaret is to the left of Corey).

Speaker Corey Johnson and the NYC Council March in the 2018 Celebrate Israel Parade - John McCarten

Some background on Corey. Earlier this month, the Queens Pride parade and the Celebrate Israel parade fell on the same Sunday. What’s an ambitious New York politician — the first openly gay male, H.I.V.-positive City Council speaker — to do? “I alternate,” Corey Johnson said. “Last year I did Queens Pride and skipped Israel. This year I did Israel.”[NY Times]

Perhaps Corey was gone by the time they walked up to 71st st because he crammed both parades in one day.

As for the NY City Council
– Their position is that BDS movement leaders and supporters engage in “unacceptable anti-Semitic rhetoric

NYC Council: 2016those activists still have the right to be bigots, anti-Israel and anti-Semitic,” but that the Council would be “simply condemning anti-Israel and anti-Semitic activity.” [Observer]

Melinda Katz (D) currently Queens Borough President, former domestic partner of Curtis Sliwa.

David I. Weprin (on the right) New York State Assembly

Sen. Chuck Schumer, Senator from New York

Schumer didn’t seem to be  a favorite of the New JDL-NY.

Congressman Jerrold Nadler, one of the most liberal members of the House, somehow went unnoticed marching up Fifth Ave. (walked by so fast – he’s not in focus)

U.N. Group supporting Israel .

And a delegation from the State of Israel

As for the parade: 11:30 am or so– I observed a CHEESE Head man.  Standing alone. Haven’t seen one of those since the Wisconsin protests. Just standing as the parade marched by. However, as I left the parade around 2:30, the back of Cheese Head man caught my eye – DANCING – as the parade  continued up Fifth avenue. Fun.

AND the peaceful green of Central Park. That gorgeous lake. Quite a  contrast to 58th street in Manhattan. Count us lucky to have such a respite from the madding crowd.
