The Mayor turned Times Square and Herald Square into NoGo Zones. But at Herald Square many cyclists were sailing through these pedestrian zones…accidents waiting to happen on unsuspecting walkers. Then we headed back to Times Square(see previous posts)
The bikes are gonna be history around here? Weird…losing the fence that we can see…
Enough of this Non-Event, they didn’t even get any chairs in Herald Sqaure…so we headed back to Times Square

More than once it was easy to lose track of where you were; buses and bikes suddenly have the right of way and you think you’re in a safe-zone: NOT good.
Next post will be on the Herald Square NoGo Zone. There we fear the bikes are gonna hit some one hard as the bikes went sailing through in both directions in what was supposed to be pedestrian-friendly: NOT!
And…the natives are so NOT HAPPY, Mr. Mayor. Even the NY Slimes (you can skip the ad when you open the link) had to report the grumblings “Lose The Traffic…” here>

New Yorkers prepare for car-free Times Square
NEW YORK (AP) — Opening now on Broadway: Pedestrian malls at Times Square and Herald Square.
As part of a Department of Transportation plan to make the city more livable, cars will be banned from stretches of Broadway at Times Square and at Herald Square.
The city believes the move will reduce pollution, cut down on pedestrian accidents and help traffic flow more smoothly.
The Department of Transportation says the barriers were fully in place sometime before 8 p.m. Sunday.

When Caroline Miller was a high school freshman, her teacher warned her about West Point.
“She said it was a waste of my potential,” recalled Miller, eyes twinkling at the thought of her ancestors rolling in their graves:
Her grandfather, Maj. Gen. Frank Dickson Miller, Class of 1938, served in Japan, Panama and Vietnam.
Her great-grandfather, Maj. Gen. Fay Brink Pricket, Class of 1916, led military tribunals against German Nazis after World War II.
Her family’s line of West Point graduates spans seven unbroken generations, from her father, retired Capt. Jeremy King Miller, all the way back to 1836, when a Kansas bugler named Israel Carle Woodruff was commissioned under Commander in Chief Andrew Jackson.
West Point officials say the family’s continuous streak of alumni is the Academy’s longest.
“It’s pretty sweet,” said Miller, 22, whose home in Highland Falls could double as an American museum of warfare. There are officers’ oil portraits watching from every wall. West Point’s motto is engraved on the mantle: Duty, Honor, Country. In curio cabinets lay centuries-old medals.
Miller, who graduated Saturday as a second lieutenant, will undoubtedly collect some trappings of her own.
She’ll marry an ’08 graduate next month, then head to a base in Hawaii as an engineer. When she deploys, she’ll handle everything from mapmaking to route clearance, bulldozers to bomb-sniffing dogs.
“I couldn’t sit behind a desk,” she said.
There are those who don’t approve of her decision to fall in with the family business, but Miller says the choice was about more than her lineage.
“There’s something to be said about a group of people willing to set their lives aside for a higher purpose,” she said.
“The family legacy is not West Point. It’s about service.”

Radical Islamists have targeted prison populations for recruitment for years. That’s where Jose Padilla, suspected of plotting to detonate a dirty bomb and convicted of conspiracy to murder people overseas and of providing material support to terrorists, converted and was radicalized.
That’s where a California man, Kevin James, created his own cell, called the Jam’iyyat Ul-Islam Is-Saheeh (JIS), and recruited other inmates to plot attacks against military and Jewish targets in and around Los Angeles.

Radicalism in prisons is a problem that has been festering for years. The Department of Justice’s Inspector General issued a report in 2004 with a host of recommendations for tamping it down, but there’s little sign any action has been taken. [snip]

Although the President tried to reassure us that no inmate has ever escaped from a super maximum security prison, what about the newly indoctrinated jihadists among the existing inmates who will be certainly released after their terms are up? Some, like the Muslim American Society, have dedicated prison projects in which they specifically collect money to send religious dogma to prisoners and underwrite volunteer chaplains. This effort is aimed not only at existing Muslims convicts but to convert non-Muslim inmates. [snip]
…we saw what happens when they leave prison and follow an extremist path, buying into propaganda that the America is at war with Islam and they mobilize to act. It is time someone paid attention.
Congress needs to impose new rules that force BOP to mandate and operate strict investigations of those who preach in the prisons and the material they are allowed to import. Wahhabist literature, Muslim Brotherhood tracts calling for Jihad, Saudi produced Qurans that exude hatred for Jews and Christians – all of this continues to flow into federal and local prisons unhampered. To those who say this is a violation of the free practice of religion or free speech, that is pure nonsense.

For Israel to make further land concessions for any reason is contrary to the original sentiments of the US Congress. Legally, the State of Israel is mandated and exists. We hope you will acknowledge this affirmation of Israel . We also hope that you will insist that the Palestinian Authority and the Arab League abide by this unanimous judgment of our forefathers recognizing Israel as a Jewish State, beginning with your forthcoming speech in Egypt on June 4th, and continuing throughout future policy statements.
